Existing landfills on the map total 23 million tons of lifetime capacity. The three landfill proposals on the map in Albion, Ava and Farmersville alone total over 36 million more tons. (These proposal are located in DEC Regions 8, 6 and 9, respectively.)

At present 98 percent of New York's commercial landfill space (the largest facilities in the state) is located in Regions 8 and 9.

100 percent of New York's hazardous waste disposal capacity (one facility of five in the U.S.) is located in Region 9 (CWM in Niagara County).
