Wind Farms in Cattaraugus County
About ten industrial wind farms are proposed around Cattaraugus County, including Everpower in Allegany; Horizon in Machias, Yorkshire and Ashford; and Noble Environmental in Farmersville and Freedom.
These projects are waiting for Cattaraugus County Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) to adopt a policy extending sales and property tax exemptions to each company. These financial benefits would add to state and federal tax subsidies that already result in payments to wind farms of 164% of the cost of each project. (Wind farms are worth tens of millions.)
